Today’s Top Pick
My top pick for the day is Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Now, some of you may have heard of this show and may have heard that it was cancelled after just two seasons—and you are right. However, while Dirk Gently has been cancelled, it is still 100% worth watching.
Like many shows, this is one my sister introduced me to, and I must say I am so incredibly pleased. This show is truly an incredibly twisty rollercoaster of a ride. I was hooked pretty much right from the start. It’s one of those shows that once you start watching you just can’t stop.
Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency follows main character, Dirk Gently, who calls himself a “holistic detective”, as he follows his seemingly random whims to try and solve various mysteries. Dirk continuously happens to be exactly where he is needed—the universe is guiding him. Without the use of any typical detective work, Dirk uses the universe’s interconnectedness to lead him. Along the way, Dirk meets Todd Brotzman and Farah Black, who eventually help him solve cases.
Throughout the show, various characters are introduced, including Todd’s sister Amanda, a “holistic assassin” named Bart, and the intriguing Rowdy 3.
I’m really upset that this show was cancelled as after only two seasons, we were just starting to dive into Dirk’s past with the government project known only as “Blackwing” and there is so much potential for further seasons.
However, there are multiple petitions to save Dirk Gently, most calling for Netflix to take over production without the help of BBC America.
The acting in this show is also incredible. The characters come across as real people and make you want to know more about them.
With only two seasons, there’s no reason you can’t watch this show—and hey, if you end up loving it as much as I do, sign a petition while you’re at it to save Dirk Gently. After all, everything is connected.
