As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve been a little M.I.A. lately! I often find that I go for months where I’m really consistent, but eventually have little spans of inactivity. Usually, this occurs when I am super busy—or catching up on some television shows (whoops).
May and June have been pretty hectic for me. I was working around the clock to save up some money for a trip I had planned. From June 11-15th, I went back to Las Vegas with my sister. We had such an amazing time last year that we knew we wanted to go back. Keep in mind, before 2015, my sister, Michelle, and I had never traveled anywhere and Vegas was so much more than either of us was expecting. This year, we knew we wanted to travel, but we were having a hard time making up our minds about where we wanted to go, so we decided to at least do a quick five day trip to Las Vegas until we could figure it out!
Last year we stayed at the Monte Carlo hotel, which we absolutely loved. We really wanted to stay there again, but the hotel is under major renovations and the pools are closed, so that was a definite no. As huge history and mythology nerds, we thought the Luxor looked pretty cool—and we were right. This year, Michelle and I checked into the Luxor on Sunday June 11 to start our next adventure.
The hotel was amazing. If you’ve never been, you should definitely check it out. The famous pyramid shape of the hotel looks so neat from the inside. Our room was inside the pyramid, so our wall of windows was slightly slanted. It was pretty neat. I really enjoyed this hotel. Literally every little detail made you feel like you were in some place in Egypt. The decorations at the front of the hotel and in the lobby were awesome!
The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the distance from the main bit of the Strip. Now, Michelle and I are both under 30, but even we found ourselves tired at the end of the night. I think Monte Carlo definitely has a better location—and here’s hoping the pools are amazing when it’s done—so we will probably stay there again if we go back.
Luxor had a really great pool area, however. There were four main pools and one paid VIP access pool. The pool area at Luxor was great for photos! With the giant pyramid in the background, there wasn’t really a bad photo to be taken. The pool was probably my favourite part of this hotel.
When we arrived back home, I worked a few more days before another big event in my life.
Wednesday June 21st, I had surgery to remove one of my molars and a wisdom tooth that were deeply impacted, sideways, in my jawbone. I was out when they did the surgery, but upon waking up was in a lot of pain. I took a week off of work to recover as there were some minor complications (one tooth was so impacted they had to cut it into pieces to remove it) and major jaw pain. I am now back at work and going to try to get back into a regular schedule of writing again!
This weekend is Canada’s 150th birthday and I’ll be celebrating that as well!
