#tpt: St Trinian’s and The Royals

Today’s Top Picks

st triniansMy first pick for today is the film St Trinian’s.  For those of you who’ve never heard of it, St Trinian’s is a British comedy from 2007.  St Trinian’s is a boarding school for unruly girls run by headmistress Camilla Fritton (played by Rupert Everett).

The film starts with Annabelle Fritton being forced to transfer to St Trinian’s by her father.  Uptight and a bit of a daddy’s girl, Annabelle doesn’t really seem to fit in with the other girls at St Trinian’s.  Head girl Kelly Jones introduces her to the various cliques within the school—and there are many.  Unbeknownst to the students, however, St Trinian’s is bankrupt and going to close down.

While eventually finding her way and making friends, Annabelle and the other girls come up with a plan to save the school.  They enter a television quiz show held in the National Gallery in London and plan to steal Vermeer’s “Girl with a Pearl Earring” painting.

This film is actually hilarious.  Full of great laughs and wonderful actors, including Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Gemma Arterton, and Lena Headey (just to name a few), St Trinian’s is definitely a must watch!  The film has a sequel, St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, which is also amazing.

royalsMy second pick for the day is the television show, The Royals.  The show is about the family of a fictional British monarchy.  In the first season we see the main characters, King Simon, Queen Helena, and their two children, twins Prince Liam and Princess Eleanor, navigate the world of politics, loyalty, betrayal, and love.

Without giving away any spoilers, I can say that this show is fantastic!

The royal twins are a bit out of control, with Liam being a bit of a player, and Eleanor dabbling in drinking and drugs.  King Simon wants to abolish the monarchy, and the Queen is absolutely against it—fearing losing her lavish lifestyle.

I recently started watching season two, and it is so addicting (I’d actually be watching it now if I wasn’t writing this)!

Okay, I lied, there’s a major spoiler here!

After the murder of sweet King Simon in season one, we see his brother, Cyrus, take over the throne—after having Helena help de-legitimize her own children!!  Taking their father’s death terribly, Liam and Eleanor both want to know who the murderer is.  This season is all about the twins working to find out the truth: who killed the king?

**End of Spoilers**

Seriously, how gorgeous is this royal family?

This show is actually so addictive.  There are so many smaller plots in the background as well as the main story arc.  There’s always something to figure out and new details are revealed nearly every episode.

This is another show filled with an amazing cast, including Vincent Regan (King Simon), Elizabeth Hurley (Queen Helena), William Moseley (Prince Liam), and Alexandra Park (Princess Eleanor).

If you’re looking for a new series full of drama, this is the show for you!
