I woke up feeling much better than I had the last few mornings—no more headaches! After getting ready I had breakfast on the balcony with my sister, aunt, and uncle. Michelle was up earlier than I was and saw whales while waiting for me for breakfast. Amazing! The way they breach the surface looks so fascinating.
After breakfast, Michelle, Aunt Raye, and I took a walk out to the Kihei Boat Launch where the different snorkel and scuba excursions leave from. It was neat seeing all the different people waiting to go on their adventures, from young families ready to explore the ocean, to the locals who run the trips. We then decided to walk even further to the big hotel we can see from out condo.

On our walk, we saw a group of whales even closer to the shore. At first they were just resting in one spot for about 10 minutes. Then they started moving, almost like they were showing off. It was absolutely amazing to see. After watching the whales for about 15 minutes, we decided to turn around and walk back. Our short morning walk ended up being about an hour hike.
When we got back, it was still before 8:30 am! We grabbed our beach gear and headed down. We got some lovely swimming (and sunning) in. We brought a pool noodle and some boogie boards down to use in the ocean. I had a small sunburn by the end of the morning, but it wasn’t too bad.

After we got back from the beach, Michelle and I made lunch and read on the balcony. When everyone was ready, we drove to the post office on North Kihei to mail a postcard to our parents. We then continued up the coast to Maalaea to visit the Maui Ocean Center: “The Hawaiian Aquarium”. We were able to see lots of sea creatures up close, like turtles, a few species of sharks, and plenty of fish. The hammerhead shark was my favourite.

Along the way, there and back, we were able to see Maalaea Harbor, the old Maalaea Power Plant, and plenty of wildlife sanctuaries. When we got back, I went out to the balcony to read until dinner. For dinner, we walked to Moose McGillycuddy’s. It was just down the street and delicious. My chicken fingers were beer battered and the fries were great. Side note: you’ll come to learn that I’m a pretty picky eater, so chicken fingers and fries is my usual restaurant grub.
Michelle and I walked along Kamaole Beach I and II to watch the sun set, then I went for a nice evening swim in the pool. We called it an early night again, as days always start super early and are jam-packed with adventure.

Until next time, aloha!
