For those of you who don’t know what it is, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month (which is November). For the whole month, people are encouraged to write a little bit every day, to complete a novel. The goal is 50, 000 words by the end of November.
Now, as a journalism grad, I’ve had articles published in various newspapers as well as writing multiple blogs. However, this is different. Of course, in high school creative writing classes I had to write short stories, but this is much longer. My sister’s always been the story writer in our household, but I decided to give it a try this year.
I always have really great ideas, but I never really get them down on paper. Taking part in NaNoWriMo encourages you to write a little bit everyday and is a great online resource for writing. You can find NaNo events in your community and can talk to all kinds of other writers out there. With public forums, author pep talks and writing buddies, every little bit helps. Even if you don’t actually finish your novel, it’s a great event to take part in. I really hope to be able to finish my novel this year, maybe not in a month, but NaNoWriMo is giving me a great start!
For anyone looking to participate, you can go to nanowrimo.org/ and start your novel!
